Mariah Carey's marriage on the rocks?

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's marriage is reportedly on the rocks. Oh, I am so not surprised of the news, are you? Mariah Carey has been accused of controlling new husband Nick Cannon. The US pop diva’s marriage is under strain already because of her “diva-ish ways”, it has been claimed. Now that we know it’s real, we are just counting the days until it’s over.

Thumbs uP for Kungfu Panda

I hadn’t seen many animated flicks as of late and I would say, simply a remarkable motion picture that is likeable, entertaining, and humourous. It was interesting, though, to hear the voices of well chosen cast of actors like Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Jack Black, Jackie Chan and Lucy Liu.

Noodle-shop boy Po (Jack Black) is one of the biggest fans of the Furious Five, Kung Fu masters and defenders of the Valley of Peace. When the vengful Tai Lung (Ian McShane) escapes his inescapable prison, it is up to the founding master of Kung Fu (Randall Duk Kim), to choose one of the Five to become the Dragon Warrior and defeat Tai Lung. Unfortunately, he picks Po instead. It's up to Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman), master of the Furious Five, to train the flabby panda in time to save the Valley from Tai Lung's wrath.

Probably the most impressive part of the film were the action scenes. With all the different forms of kung fu, it is hard not to enjoy this film. The plot is straightforward, which makes it very easy to understand even for kids.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Jack Black. But I think he is the funniest character by far, so if you enjoy his kind of humour you will probably like this movie a lot. If you don’t you will probably hate the movie. The other characters add substance to the movie with very well choreographed fight scenes, each with unique abilities.

For what it's worth, my kids really liked the movie. My kids just kept their eyes on screen for the whole time. Never in my life have I seen my kids laughed so hard at an animated movie.

The message is about believing in yourself, the underlying theme of the movie. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed it, and I’d recommend it to anyone of all ages. You won't be dissapointed.

David Cook wins American Idol Season 7

America has just crowned its 7th Idol. After a dramatic, tension-filed few months, Rocker proves judge Simon Cowell wrong by 12 million votes. This win comes as a surprise since Simon Cowell pretty much declared David Archuleta the winner after last night’s performances. Simon gave all 3 rounds to David A on Tuesday night, it made the David Cook fans even more determined to VOTE VOTE VOTE! I am pleased that Simon apologized to David Cook about his harsh critics last night.

I haven’t ever seen such a fabulous finale so far. Season 7 was the best! Top 12 finalists made one final comeback to the show, with several group, solo and duet performances. Guests included Seal, Donna Summer, Bryan Adams, ZZ Top, Graham Nash, The Jonas Brothers and OneRepublic and a grand finale by George Michael, who is making his first comeback tour after 17 years.

Congrats to David Cook on being this seasons American Idol. My Idol! David Archuletta, you are fabulous, and you have a magic career ahead of you.

American Idol Finale: David Cook vs David Archuleta

David Cook vs. David Archuleta. Who do you wanna see come out on top?

I think this season’s (7th) American Idol is the best so far. It’ll be the guy vs. guy finale since season 2’s Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard showdown. One little David and one adult David. The other David (Hernandez) was just not lucky. What if it had been David A vs David C vs David H? Would it have been fun and cool? Anyway, I am rooting for David Cook. I just think that from all of his performances, he deserves it the best. I personally think Cook is more relevant in today’s music industry. Archuleta appeals to a large young teenage group, while Cook’s audience are more mature and appeal to more people at all levels. Maybe my predictions are wrong but it's merely my opinion. I like David A though...he is a breath of fresh air and all, but he's no David C!

I don’t think it was any surprise that Syesha Mercado was voted off “American Idol” on Wednesday night. It was a rough night for Syesha, and it almost seemed like the judges were telling America to send her home judging from her average performances. I guess she is now out of the game.

Whatever happens, the two 'Davids' are going HEAD to HEAD in the finale. They're both of the same potential and of a strong fan base. Tough call. Which David is your pick? One thing's for sure, I’m not going to miss the finale. It will be be Idol mania next week. Gosh, this whole post is about DAVIDS.

This dolphin is one lucky mammal!

In this photo, David Archuleta kisses a dolphin. Yes, you read that correctly. Are you jealous of the mammal, ladies?

American Idol's Top 3: Jason Castro Heads Home

Jason voted off

It was rock and roll week and the remaining four idols had to pick two songs from that era. It came no surprise to me when it was announced Jason was voted off this week. Infact, he should have packed his bag a few weeks ago. His performances really sucks. It would have been a shock if Syesha got the boot. Somehow, Jason was lucky enough to survive through two incredible weeks. That's because he outlasted Carly Smithson and Brooke White whom many thought were better than him. I had to agree with Simon when he lambasted Jason for 'an utterly atrocious performance' for the first song. It was in the second song when Jason really messed it up as he forgot the lyrics of it.

David Cook was awesome again this week. He started with 'Hungry Like The Wolf' which blasted the house down. His second number 'Baba O'Riley' was unfamiliar number but David musically showcased his talent and earned high praise from all the three judges. Even Simon was compelled to remark, "welcome back, David Cook."

As for David Archuleta, he rendered 'Stand By Me' and 'Love Me Tender' and he absolutely captivated everyone with his deep, matured voice. I'd say that the night truly belonged to little David. I think he is going to go far in music industry. Besides, he has milllions of screaming fans in every corner of the world.

It was difficult to find fault with Syesha because she impressed everyone except Simon who said it was a bad impersonation of Tina Turner. Simon got that all wrong, big booo. When Syesha delivered her second song, 'A Change Is Gonna Come', strangely though, among the three judges, only Randy didn't like it.

Each contestant will sing three songs – judges’ choice, producers’ choice and finalist’s choice next week. The remaining three will get the opportunity to perform in front of a home town audience next week.

American Idol's Top 4 and Brooke's Out

This week, the legendary Neil Diamond played mentor for the remaining five contestants. He was a big name from the 60s to the 80s. I guess this time, when Brooke needed the support most, the fans were just not there. Obviously, as fate and voters have it, her fan base was not as large as other contestants.

Brooke White didn't perform her best on Wednesday evening. It wasn't the first time, she had to struggle with the rhythm of the song. She always felt so intense during her performance. I bet if Carly Smithson was still in the competition she would have really sung some terrific Neil Diamond tunes. I thought the '2 Davids' have a pretty good potential of reaching the Top 2. Well, that's my personal opinion. Infact, I thought the most deserving to go home for the week was Jason Castro. His performance really sucks. Now that Brooke is gone and Jason lives on.
Personally, American Idol show has been great fun for me but it's disheartening to watch the truly talented ones receiving their exit ticket early, just because they are not that popular among the Idol fans. The final 4 will be singing rock and roll on May 6th and 7th, 2008. It's going to be an awesome night!

American Idol Gives Back 2008

American Idol held a concert to 'Give Back' to third world continents recently. The show was intended to raise funds for 6 charities including The Children’s Defense Fund, Children’s Health Fund, The Global Fund, Make It Right, Malaria No More and Save the Children. I really appreciate the fact that American Idol took the time to raise awareness for the worthy causes highlighted. The Idol give back foundation is a great effort trying to end poverty and child suffering. Wouldn't it be nice and wonderful to put the smiles back on the faces of children and the needy? Obviously, American Idol will be able to raise millions and millions of dollars for various causes around the world.

Many celebrities have graced the show and encouraged people to donate. I enjoyed the performances by Fergie, Heart, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, Mariah Carey, Gloria Estefan and John Legend. The cast of So You Think You Can Dance opened Idol Gives Back performing to Rihanna's "Please Don't Stop the Music" sung by 'Idol's' Top 8. The combination worked really well. They rocked the house. Gloria Estefan performed "Get On Your Feet" with Sheila E on drums and the SYTYCD dancers. This song rules! I've no idea how she did it but Gloria Estefan is virtually ageless. She hasn't lost a bit of her voice either. Apart from Gloria, Annie Lennox’s performance was simply awesome. Certainly did not lack of emotion. It was absolutely great to see Mariah Carey performed at the Idol Gives back. She nailed it! Mariah looked stunning and sounded flawless. I didn't know that Randy Jackson could play the bass guitar. The American Idol contestants wrapped things up with a performance of "Shout To The Lord." Everyone sounded good but it was not at all memorable, they really should have let Mariah performed the final spot.

1 in a million

1 in a million is down to Top 5 finalists. The 5 remaining in the competition are getting intense for their next performance.

It's not easy being in a reality singing show. The judges' comments can be harsh at times. The contestants have to be prepared to accept feedback of the good, bad and ugly sort.

Performing on stage week after week, Sara always has the X factor. She has not dissapoint anybody yet. She's a truly vocal powerhouse.

I was impressed with Shila's performance. It was brilliant and awesome.

There was Ayu who rendered her song beautifully. It was a song that demanded a feeling that came straight from the heart.

I guess AB has not showcased his vocals last week. I think he tried very hard but obviously his voice was not up to par with Nurul.

Mark was given thumbs down for his performance. His vocals were messy and he has pitching problems. Worse, he could be going home.

Stay tuned with 8TV on Fridays, 9.30pm.
