Lipstick Increases Breast Cancer Risk

There you have it ladies, too much of anything is always bad. It is sometimes terrifying when you look at it, how the very things we often take for granted can be later proven to be harmful. A study has shown that a chemical found in lipstick and nail varnish could trigger breast cancer. Butyl benzyl phthalate(BBP) is most likely to be used in the cosmetics industry to make products glossy.

In 2007, an environmentalist group, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics did a survey on lipsticks. They tested 33 different types of lipsticks for lead and found out they indeed contain lead. Lead is a chemical which causes cancer....

Many lipstick makers don't provide you with the list of ingredients that they use- but many renowned brands, including Vaseline, use toxic, drying ingredients in their lipsticks. In a lifetime, the average woman absorbs 2lb of lipstick! However, there are many safe lipsticks out there, so find out what you're applying.

I’m one of those women who apply a lip stick almost daily and obviously I'm not alone. The good news is that I don't put nail polish but now I am a bit hesitant when I buy lipsticks as I am concern about what it entails. It could be your worst health enemy.

Aaaargh - it seems everything is going to give us cancer these days. I say life's too short to worry and I'm not going to stop wearing lipstick because of a tiny risk. Afterall I might get run over by a bus tomorrow and I want to look good in the hospital!

I received a mail today from a friend telling me that some lipsticks contain lead. Is this true? Here's what the email said:

Recently a lipstick brand called "Red Earth" decreased their prices from $67 to $9.90. It contained lead. Lead is a chemical which causes cancer.

The lipstick brands that contain lead are:

CHRISTIAN DIOR
LANCOME
CLINIQUE
Y.S.L ESTEE LAUDER
SHISEIDO
RED EARTH (Lip Gloss)
CHANEL (Lip Conditioner)
MARKET AMERICA - MOTNES LIPSTICK.

According to the Long Islang surgical oncologist, the higher the lead content, the greater the chance of causing cancer. After doing a test on lipsticks, it was found that the Y.S.L. lipstick contained the most amount of lead.

So, I now I'm aware of those lipsticks which are supposed to stay longer. If your lipstick stays longer, it is because of the higher content of lead. I am now aware of the lipstick brand names and the ingredients they put.
