You all might know that currently we are facing the Global Rice Crisis. The sudden rice price increased is out of our control. It's like a chain reaction. Infact, some of the food hawkers have began to increase price. They take it as a good opportunity to raise their prices due to skyrocketing food costs.
The Asian community are feeling insecure and panic over the current situation and seems like they have started stockpiling rice. So much for government’s reassurance that there wasn’t any crisis. The world's biggest producers have begun to restrict exports to ensure supplies at home.
Perhaps, the current crisis is a good thing. Somehow, this is a good way to cut down on our rice intake and adopt healthier eating habits. On the other hand, it's the perfect timing for the overweight to shed some pounds. Instead of having nasi lemak for breakfast, economy rice for lunch and nasi kandar for dinner, eat bread, biscuits and more grains and seeds. In many parts of the world, they are basic daily food and could be alternatives to rice.
The worse is not yet over. Oil crisis, rice crisis, what's next? Rising prices are giving me headaches and heartaches.
